Project Description: The Salhiya Complex is regarded as one of the most prestigious shopping malls in Kuwait. It hosts many world-renowned stores within. However, over the years, the complex was becoming very dark from the interior and the shops on the upper floors were not being utilized because of the lack of pedestrian circulation on the upper floors. The client approached PACE to find solutions to enhance the mall both from the exterior as well as the interior. On the exterior, PACE designed an outdoor plaza that would attract pedestrians. The plaza features landscaping, sculptures and seating areas for the public. Exterior facades were redesigned to match with the Sahab Tower next door. On the interior, PACE wanted to bring more light into the building by enhancing the skylight theme, lightening the interior colors and adding columns with built in light fixtures. Also, PACE adjusted the overall circulation within the mall by adding escalators that lead to the upper floors. This allowed for easier circulation to the upper floors and thereby increasing the business to the shops on the mezzanine levels. PACE also removed a scarcely used staircase and provided more areas to act as display areas and showroom for cars.
